Last week we looked at this statement declaring the vision for our parish community:
We, the parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Wentworthville, cherish the gift of belonging to a worshipping faith community. We seek to love and serve God as members of the Carmelite family.
The first part of this is that we are a faith community. This was emphasised very strongly in both the parish survey results and parish meeting last month. The same vision document (which you can still collect from the parish centre, or download from the parish website) says the following about our hopes for our community into the future:
We strive to live as the body of Christ, made one through the waters of baptism.
Therefore we will:
- Live as a family of faith and friendship, providing guidance and support to all
- Encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in the life of the Church
- All contribute as much as possible to the continued growth of our community
- Work together, ordained and lay people, in a spirit of mutual love and respect
- Celebrate and give expression to our cultural diversity
- Seek unity with our Christian brothers and sisters who share our one Lord, faith and baptism
- Invite all who seek a relationship with God, both young and old, to “come and see”.
One opportunity we’re providing for our community to share in this week is a liturgical one. Our Advent evening prayer in the spirit of Taizé begins this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the parish centre. All are welcome to take time out during this busy time of year and to stay awake in our own hearts for the coming of the Lord.
