23/12/07 – Our Vision for Our Community #4

We have been looking at this statement declaring the vision for our parish community:

We, the parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Wentworthville, cherish the gift of belonging to a worshipping faith community.  We seek to love and serve God as members of the Carmelite family.

At the end of each Mass, the priest sends the assembly forth, telling them to “go in peace” and to “love and serve the Lord”.  This means that our faith, celebrated in the worship of the parish community, must also be lived through missionary activity.

We strive to go in peace to love and serve the Lord

Therefore we will:

  • Share our faith with all, in both words and actions
  • Serve all we encounter with compassion and love
  • Reach out to others who are new to our community, or who are in need

In this way we, as St. Teresa of Avila suggests, become the body through which Christ loves and serves others in the world today:

Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours.  Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion for the world is to look out; yours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good; and yours are the hands with which he is to bless us now.

On behalf of the Liturgy Committee, may the blessings of the coming Christmas season be with you all.
