Our new visual display system boasts newer, improved technology, and screens that are more level with the visual focus of the sanctuary. This also means it’s easy to notice that they are brighter than our old projector.
While they can appear quite bright during the dark of winter, their brightness will be important in helping the assembly participate fully, consciously and actively in the months to come. Our church benefits from plenty of ambient light, making it a bright and inviting space. Our Saturday and Sunday night parishioners in particular also know it made the old projector display very hard to see in the middle of summer.
Some people might find their eyes take a moment to adjust to the change from when the screen is active to when it’s inactive. We are looking at ways that we can smooth out this transition to help. It is also important, however, that the screens are inactive when they are not used. This helps us all to maintain our focus on the ritual action at that time, such as the readings proclaimed at the ambo, the priest celebrant leading us in prayer, or the consecration of the Eucharist.
