Last weekend, the Liturgy Committee began The Church: Our place of worship, Our house of God. It is a formation series for parishioners.
Every few weeks a new leaflet will be available in the Parish Centre and online which will contain statements and reflections on liturgical space and environment. Each leaflet will focus on a particular element of the liturgical space, with the first addressing the church building in general. The content of each leaflet incorporates three sources:
- Universal and national Church liturgical documents, such as Sacrosanctum Concilium (Vatican II’s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy) the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (of which the latest edition for Australia is now available), England and Wales’ Consecrated for Worship: A Directory on Church Building, and the United States’ Built of Living Stones: Art, Architecture and Worship.
- Sacred scripture related to the topic
- The ritual texts of the Church related to the topic, such as excerpts from the Rite of Dedication of a Church and Altar or the Book of Blessings.
The full collection of leaflets will be available on line (as it develops) at The Church page on the Liturgy Committee website.
The first leaflet on the Church building, How Blessed is This Place… is now available.
