Starting at the Mass of the Supper of the Lord on Holy Thursday, we will return to offering Communion from the chalice. This will be a return to what was common practice within our parish before COVID-19 restrictions were first put in place.

While Communion from the chalice was historically withdrawn from the assembly for many years, the Church reinforced its importance at the Second Vatican Council. As the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (n 281) explains:

Holy Communion has a fuller form as a sign when it takes place under both kinds

The command Jesus gave to his disciples was simple: “take this, all of you and eat it… take this, all of you, and drink from it…” To eat and drink both the Body and Blood of Christ allows us to enter fully into the ritual meal instituted by Jesus in the Last Supper.
